100g Mineral Concentrate Pellets

Mineral concentrate pellets are the best way to ensure that your cows are getting everything they need on a daily basis –  if the cows are eating you know that they are getting exactly what they need down their throat. We can offer a range of different pellets depending on your farm needs – you can speak with your vet to determine what you require or we can provide a nutritionist to offer advice on farm.

These pellets are designed to be fed in shed and should your cows have any deficiencies we can alter the formulation to address this issue.

100g Mineral Concentrate Pellets

Mineral Concentrate Pellets or MCP are 6mm pellets containing about 60% minerals and additives and 40% of other (grain, molasses, hyprofat and flavouring) to blind the pellet together. The pellets contain Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium Copper, Selenium, Cobalt, Zinc and Iodine in good nutritional quantities.

Bovatec or Rumensin are ruminant modifiers that can be included to improve feed efficiency and reduce the risk of rumen acidosis and bloat. Other options that can be included are Biotin, Vitamin A,D,E and /or Organic/Chelated trace-elements.

Benefits of Mineral Concentrate Pellets

MCP brings a lot of current farm activities and costs that are spread over different expense lines into one. When full break down is understood and compared to alternative ways of application you will in fact see that MCP should save you money.

Savings from Pelletising:

  1. Dusting requires the use of equipment (wear and tear), fuel and 3x the amount of lime & Mag for effective cow uptake. Farmers have estimated this cost to be between 6-9c per cow per day.
  2. Less animal health issues saving treatment costs and more time with cows in production making money.
  3. Contributes toward improved fertility (in calf rates).

Other Key benefits include:

  • Knowing exactly what a cow gets down the throat with accurate and consistent dose rates, no matter what the weather or who is feeding out.
  • Knowing the cows are getting their precise dose of Bovatec/Rumensin, this is a big benefit as they are a rumen modifier helping the bacteria to be more efficient converting feed into energy so they get more out of what they eat. This alone will produce a response.
  • Exact doses of all the trace elements, minerals and additives is important to get the best return on your investment with:
    –   Less downer cows
    –   Better feed efficiency providing more energy to the cow.
    –   Greater milk production
    –   Less wastage
  • Ease and reliability mineral distribution.
  • No dust.
  • Cows can’t avoid treatment by drinking out of a puddle.
  • Some other methods can be hit and miss.

We recommend switching to 100g MCP about 100 days after lactation as the cows do not need the calcium anymore and this will save you money – i.e.

Jan – May         100g MCP, Feeding rate 100g per cow per day. If milking twice a day that is 50g per milking.
